Mr. Ian MacDonald, Vice President, Europe, Eurasia and Middle East Exploration and Production, Chevron
Based in London, Mr. Ian MacDonald is responsible for Chevron’s upstream business development and transportation strategy for Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East.
A native of Scotland, Ian MacDonald received his bachelor’s degree in political theory and institutions from the University of Liverpool.
Over the past thirty years, he has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility with Chevron in Europe, US, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, and Russia. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. MacDonald managed the logistics operations of the giant Tengizchevroil project.
In May 2002, he was appointed by the shareholders of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) as general director of a 1,500 kilometer transnational pipeline and terminal. During his tenure, Mr. MacDonald saw the pipeline successfully commissioned and stewarded the growth of pipeline volumes toward its current level of 750,000 barrels a day. Chevron holds a 15 percent stake in CPC and is one of ten shareholders in the Consortium.
Upon leaving CPC, Mr. MacDonald was appointed president of Chevron Neftegaz Inc. and general manager of business development in Russia. In the summer of 2008, he returned to London to take over his current regional responsibilities, which have included the building of an Eastern European Shale Gas exploration portfolio and the sanctioning of a major expansion project to double the capacity of CPC.
