H.E. Titus Corlăţean, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Republic of Romania
 
H.E. Titus Corlăţean was born in Medgidia, Romania. He graduated from the University of Bucharest in 1994 with a degree in law and earned a postgraduate diploma in international law and international relations in 1995 and a PhD in international public law in 2010, also at the University of Bucharest. He attended the National Defense College and the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.

 
From 1994 to 2001, Senator Corlăţean was a diplomat in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He became the prime minister’s personal adviser on foreign affairs issues from 2001 to 2003 and was secretary of state for Romanians living abroad until the end of 2004. In 2004 Senator Corlăţean was elected a member of Parliament in the Chamber of Deputies and during his tenure was secretary of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and a member of the Committee on European Integration. During that time he was also chairman of the Subcommittee for Romanians living abroad and a member of the European Parliament as an observer. In 2007 Senator Corlăţean was elected to the European Parliament.
 

Senator Corlăţean is now a member of the Romanian Senate, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, member of the Romanian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council, and president of the Sub-Committee for Middle East within the Parliamentary Assembly of European Council. Senator Corlăţean is an accomplished author of many published scientific works. He speaks French and English, and was awarded Romania’s Star National Order in rank of Knight in 2004. He is married with one child.
