Dr. Werner Weihs-Raabl, Head of Group Infrastructure Finance, Erste Group
Dr. Werner Weihs-Raabl heads the Group Infrastructure Finance of Erste Group Bank. He has extensive transaction experience in the corporate and structured finance sector. For over 20 years Werner Weihs-Raabl has been instrumental in a wide variety of infrastructure projects throughout Europe with a strong focus on Austria and the CEE region.
Dr. Weihs-Raabl graduated as Doctor Juris in 1981 from the University of Vienna Law School and attended additional courses in International Finance and Macroeconomics, International Law and Political Theories. Between 2001 and 2008 Dr. Weihs-Raabl headed the Vienna office of Macquarie as Divisional
Director of Macquarie Bank and Managing Director of Macquarie Capital GmbH. Dr. Weihs-Raabl was involved in a number of PPP projects and infrastructure transactions in Austria and the CEE such as financial advisory work for STRABAG and PORR, in relation to a concession model for the construction and operation for the A5 Nordautobahn. Another PPP relevant transaction was the financial advisory work provided to the consortium Motorola, Alcatel, Telekom for the construction and operation of a digital security radio network for the Ministry of Interior with a total transaction size of 130 million Euros.
Prior to Macquarie, Dr. Weihs-Raabl was Head of the Structured Lease Finance Department at Bank Austria Creditanstalt Leasing GmbH where he structured several major utility and related infrastructure transactions as well as projects in the aircraft finance sector in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Norway. Dr. Weihs-Raabl was also involved in major investment activities in the utilities sector in Austria, including but not limited to investments in power plants, wind energy projects and turbines for Austrian incumbents.
