The broader Black Sea-Caspian region is the world’s nexus of geopolitics and energy. Its countries share historic, political and economic bonds that are marred today by divisions, discontinuities and conflicts. The issue for Eurasia, the transatlantic community and the region’s other global partners, is achieving greater security, stability, prosperity and opportunity for its diverse countries and peoples.
The Solution
The Atlantic Council’s Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center fosters dialogue among regional and global government, political, business and other leaders on solutions to challenges facing the region. Combining in-depth understanding of Eurasia’s history, politics, and economics with expertise on energy and emerging technologies, the Center provides targeted and distinctive research and policy advice to governments and businesses worldwide.
Dinu Patriciu, Chairman of DP Holding SA, is one of the leading energy and business players in Eurasia. As a member of the Atlantic Council International Advisory Board, Mr. Patriciu helped to launch both the Eurasia Center that bears his name and the annual Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum.

The Mission
Politics: Programs on and scholarship about political discontinuities and potential flashpoints within and among the Eurasian countries, with emphasis on current and longer-term issues in the region and for transatlantic interests there, dialogue on ways to address them, and awareness of how regional concerns relate to global issues and developments.Energy: The economics of energy may be changing, but for years to come Eurasia will be an important hydrocarbon resource and consumer. In addition to scholarship and programs on current energy development and infrastructure issues, the Center also looks at how new producers and consumers affect the region’s energy future, and how both new and traditional players may affect developments in the economic, political and security spheres.Economics, Trade and Integration: The Center develops and facilitates dialogue among regional business and political leaders on ways to achieve greater economic and other forms of integration, with focus on trade, investment and business facilitation.
